LULLINGSTONE CASTLE
Thursday 11 October 2018

Visit to Lullingstone Castle, one of England’s oldest family estates, known to have been visited by Henry VIII and Queen Anne.   The present Manor House, built in 1497, is set in 120 acres of countryside and overlooking a large lake. Close to the Manor House is The World Garden of Plants created by Tom Hart Dyke and contains some 8,000 species planted in their respective countries of origin.  Within the grounds is the  Parish Church of St Botolph which is of Norman origin and has some of the oldest stained glass windows in the country.    A short walk along the River Darent is an 18th century ice house and “Queen Anne’s Bathhouse”.
