Date of visit to be confirmed

Petworth House and Park (National Trust)

Inspired by the Baroque palaces of Europe, Petworth is an ancestral seat created by one family over 900 years. Petworth is famous for its extensive art collection made by George Wyndham, 3rd Earl of Egrement (1751)-1837) containing works by his friend J.M.W. Turner. It also has an extensive deer park, landscaped by Capability Brown, which contains the largest herd of fallow deer in England.

Walmer Castle and Gardens (EH)

Walmer Castle and Gardens (English Heritage)

Visit Walmer Castle with the TAS in September 2022 to explore over eight acres of award-winning gardens, situated in the grounds of a picturesque coastal castle with a fascinating history. Walmer Castle was once a Tudor artillery fortress that became a stately home for the Lords Warden of the Cinque Ports, including the Iron Duke of Wellington, the Beauchamp family from Madresfield House in Worcestershire, (the seat of the Lygon family for 900 years and the family from which Brideshead Revisited was based), Winston Churchill, and the late Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother.

Discover a glorious mix of formal and informal garden styles. Admire the herbaceous borders, colourful planting and impressive cloud hedge in the striking Broadwalk or relax in the tranquil setting of the Queen Mother’s Garden. See the kitchen garden bursting with fresh fruit and vegetables then stroll through the wildflower meadows and shady woodland walk to the recently restored sunken glen. With a mix of colourful displays and cool shaded spots, the gardens at Walmer Castle provide the perfect setting for a day out in the fresh air.
